Ingersoll Watches was founded in 1882 by 21-year-old Robert Hawley Ingersoll and his brother Charles Henry Ingersoll. Ingersoll wanted to mass produce watches, something that had never been done before. His goal was to produce a watch that could be sold for just one dollar. He enlisted the help of another famous Americn innovator, Henry Ford, and working together they developed an assembly line method of watchmaking.
Together they were able to produce a pocket watch that could be sold for just $1.00. The watch was such a success that Ingersoll sold forty million watches and it became known around the world as "The watch that made the dollar famous!"
